31st July 2021

September 23rd – 25th, the beautiful Yorkshire market town of Beverley plays host to a vibrant festival of concerts, talks and a late night performance.  Don’t dilly-dally in buying your tickets to this joyful event: they will almost certainly sell out over the coming week or so:

Co-artistic directors Martin Roscoe & Libby Burgess welcome you to an autumnal feast of live music.  New faces joining them for this musical banquet include:

One of the finest clarinettists in the world, Julian Bliss appears in two concerts in the festival:

  1. Echoes of Spring, in which he performs ‘Shepherd on the Rock’ by Schubert alongside Ailish Tynan and Libby, as well as Brahms’ Clarinet Trio, with Libby and Cara Berridge; and
  2. Double Time, where he plays Brahms’ other masterpiece of chamber music featuring the clarinet – the Clarinet Quintet – with artists in residence, the Sacconi Quartet.

As well as singing a sumptuous set of Schubert songs in Echoes of Spring, soprano Ailish Tynan – one of the great song singers of our age – performs in two other concerts during the festival:

  1. She joins forces with Martin Roscoe and the Sacconi Quartet to perform Chausson’s gorgeous Chanson Perpetuélle in the opening concert; and
  2. All the Lights of this World, where Ailish and Libby present a knockout programme of song including Grieg’s ravishing Opus 48 plus three transcendental songs by Richard Strauss – Morgen, Die Nacht, and Befreit.

Amuse-bouche

Strauss also features in our sunny Saturday matinee recital, Spring Eternal, given by violinist Sophie Rosa with Martin Roscoe.  We’re thrilled to welcome Sophie to the festival for the first time, and to whet your appetite we leave you with this video:

We hope that you have a great summer.  We’ll pick out some more highlights of the festival in our next newsletter.  Get your autumn off to a flying start with a few days at the festival – a warm welcome awaits you here in Beverley.
