New Paths Music is seeking its second cohort of Voyagers – outstanding young musicians from in and around the East Riding of Yorkshire.
What is the Voyagers scheme?
- A unique one-year scheme for talented and ambitious teenage musicians, combining tuition, apprenticeship and mentoring.
- A tailored programme of workshops and one-to-one sessions, designed to reflect your interests and specialisms and boost your skills and ideas.
- An opportunity to be more closely involved with one of the UK’s most exciting classical music festivals.
What does it offer?
- Coaching with outstanding professionals as part of the New Paths festivals (September & April).
- Workshops and individual sessions between these festivals.
- Observing professional rehearsals – plus the chance to chat to the musicians about their experience.
- Performing in a Voyagers Platform during the festival, in a professional performing environment.
- Developing transferable skills: presentation skills, confidence, teamwork, goal setting, creative thinking and more.
- The chance to volunteer in the behind-the-scenes running of a festival if you would like.
- A year-long opportunity to be part of the New Paths family.
Who is it for?
- A small number of carefully selected musicians: enthusiastic, motivated teenagers working at a high level.
- You must be aged under 18 on 31st August 2025: usually we expect Voyagers to be aged 16+, but in exceptional circumstances we will consider younger musicians.
- Ordinarily you will be at around the level of Grade 8 or above – but exams and standards are not everything: we’re more interested in attitude, motivation and eagerness to develop.
- We expect most of our Voyagers will be instrumentalists or singers – but if your interest is in composing, teaching, working behind the scenes or running events, let us know: we will tailor a programme that supports you if we can.

The Voyagers scheme is designed to boost the regular work you’re doing with your own teachers, and offers a chance to expand your skills and ambitions at an exciting stage in your development as a musician. Perhaps you have ambitions to study music at university or college, perhaps you’re interested in a career in the creative industries – or perhaps you’re just passionate about developing your own musicianship as far as you can.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to this scheme: we tailor the content to each cohort of individuals. Whether you’re looking to finesse your performing skills, tackle performance anxiety, develop a detailed area of technique, seek advice about next steps of studying, or just have fun making music with inspiring and brilliant people, we can help.
The scheme is open to those who live or study in the East Riding of Yorkshire / Hull. Subject to space, the opportunity will also be available to those in Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
