Our next musical Postcard

“I shall first consider women in the grand light of human creatures, who, in common with men, are placed on this earth to unfold their faculties…”
(Mary Wollstonecraft, from A Vindication of the Rights of Women, 1791)

The second in our current series of POSTCARDS is out today!

Inspired by the recent carvings at St Mary’s, depicting women who have contributed great things but been overlooked by history, this Postcard features the sumptuous music of Amy Beach. Violinist Sophie Rosa joins Libby Burgess in this passionate performance. Amongst the carvings is the writer of the opening words above – the early campaigner for women’s rights, Mary Wollstonecraft, who grew up in Beverley.
