Local violin maker joins the festivities
New Paths is delighted to announce that Beverley violin maker Peter Hall is celebrating the festival this weekend by opening his workshop to the public on Saturday – 22nd April 2017 – to showcase the centuries old art of violin making. Members of the public will have a rare opportunity to see this local craftsman at work.
Festival artists will be visiting Peter’s studio on Norwood throughout the day to give free short performances, demonstrating their fine instruments and sharing their fascinating stories. This will be a very special chance to see and hear close-up some exquisite instruments, both historic and modern, and to chat with Peter and some of the leading musicians in the country in a friendly and relaxed environment. Instruments on show include violins, violas, cellos and a theorbo!
Watching, and listening to, these incredible instruments in the hands of such dynamic players and hearing their inspirational stories in such quirky surroundings is surely an opportunity not to be missed. Everyone is welcome to come along to these free lively pop-up performances and to visit Peter’s workshop on Saturday between 10am and 4pm. Peter will be putting-up the bunting for the occasion and serving wine and cheese to visitors, so come along to enter into the festive spirit and be captivated by the craft of violin making and the art of the New Paths musicians.

10.30am Fenella Humphreys | violin
12.00pm Jamie Campbell, Alexandra Caldon, Rachel Robson, and Cara Berridge | string quartet
3.00pm Matthew Wadsworth | theorbo
Matthew will be joined by baritone William Townend who will serenade the audience with a song.
